Description:
Dihexa is a small peptide-derived compound designed to enhance synaptogenesis and neuronal repair. Developed from Angiotensin IV analogs, Dihexa demonstrates potent neurotrophic activity, surpassing that of BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) in preclinical models. It is studied for its ability to restore cognitive function in models of neurodegenerative disease, traumatic brain injury, and age-related memory loss.
Dihexa’s ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and stimulate synaptic connectivity makes it a unique compound in neurorestorative research.
Mechanism of Action:
- Binds to hepatocyte growth factor (HGF)/c-Met receptor, activating pro-growth pathways
- Stimulates synaptogenesis and dendritic spine formation
- Enhances learning and memory consolidation
- Protects against amyloid-β-induced neurotoxicity
Key Research Areas:
- Alzheimer’s and cognitive decline
- Post-stroke and traumatic brain injury rehabilitation
- Synaptic plasticity and neurogenesis
- Learning and executive function research
- Neuroprotection from oxidative and amyloid-related damage
History of Discovery:
Dihexa was developed by Dr. Joseph Harding and colleagues at Washington State University, as part of an initiative to create blood-brain barrier–permeable analogs of angiotensin IV for memory enhancement. It was found to be more potent than BDNF in promoting neuronal growth and has since gained attention in Alzheimer’s and CNS repair research.
Case Studies:
